Everything you might want to know about how Zoey works, keeps your data private, and grows with your household. Still curious?Join the waitlist and ask us anything.
What is Zoey?
Zoey is a private app that keeps your household's important records — documents, IDs, vehicles, insurance, retirement accounts, and renewal dates — in one place. Beyond storing them, Zoey grows new skills that help you tackle projects you've been putting off, like comparing homes or preparing for estate planning.
What is a passkey, and how do I set one up?
A passkey is a modern, phishing-resistant replacement for a password. Instead of something you type, it's a cryptographic key stored on your device — your phone, laptop, or password manager — that you unlock with your fingerprint, face, or device PIN. You sign in to Zoey with Google or an emailed link; the passkey is what unlocks your household's encrypted vault. The first time you open the vault, Zoey asks you to add one: choose your device's built-in option (Face ID, Touch ID, or Windows Hello) or a password manager like iCloud Keychain or 1Password, then confirm with your fingerprint, face or PIN. After that, unlocking is a single tap — there's nothing to remember or type.
How does Zoey keep my data private?
Your sensitive details are end-to-end encrypted. They're locked in your browser with your household's key, which only your household members' passkeys can unlock, and only an unreadable, encrypted copy is ever saved to our servers. Not our team, not our servers, and not anyone else can read them. A new member or device gets the key only after someone already in your household approves it by matching a code on both screens.
What if I lose my phone or my passkey?
Another member of your household can approve your new device, and you're back in. If your household ever loses every passkey, the recovery code shown when your vault is first set up restores access — so keep it somewhere safe. We can't recover your vault for you, because we never have the key.
Can my spouse or partner use Zoey too?
Yes. Zoey is designed for households. You create one household and invite your spouse or partner with their own secure account, so you can share what matters and stay organized together.
What can Zoey do today?
Zoey organizes your household records — My Garage for vehicles, an ID & Membership Vault, retirement accounts, and insurance — and flags renewals before they're due. It also includes skills like House Hunter, which lets you score and fairly compare the homes you're considering, and Estate Prep, which helps you organize everything into a package before meeting an attorney.
What are “skills”?
Skills are guided processes that help you act on things, not just store records. House Hunter and Estate Prep are in the app today, and we build the next skills around what real households ask for most — whether that's buying a car, planning for retirement, tracking warranties, or something we haven't thought of yet.
Where are my uploaded document files stored?
Attachments you upload go to a Zoey folder in your household's own Google Drive, shared with your household members. Zoey keeps only a list of them — never the file itself.
